A feline snuggled up to a woman at the shelter and refused to leave her side, despite living on the streets for years.
Daisy Austin, an adoption coordinator working at an animal hospital in West Hollywood, California, shared a heartwarming story from an adoption event she attended at the South LA Animal Shelter a couple of years ago. She hadn’t planned on adopting another cat that day, but little did she know what was in store for her.
Stepping into a restricted area, Daisy’s gaze fell upon a cat named Marmie. The moment she laid eyes on her, Marmie approached Daisy and began rubbing her face against her fingers while purring with contentment. Daisy was instantly smitten.
Marmie had been a stray found on the streets and brought into the shelter in a sorry state. Emaciated, with mats in her fur and covered in dirt, she weighed a mere 4.5 pounds.
Daisy Austen was not only dealing with a bad upper respiratory infection but also had some minor skin wounds around her face. Marmie may have had a rough exterior, but deep down she just wanted to feel loved. The moment she locked eyes with Daisy, she gazed at her with a look of longing and rubbed against the cage, silently asking for some affection. Aware that the shelter was unable to provide long-term care for Marmie, Daisy understood that she needed to make a quick decision.

Marmie spent hours cuddling with her new forever mom, purring contently and looking into her eyes as if to say thank you for rescuing her from the tough streets of Los Angeles.
Marmie, though believed to be at least a decade old, displayed a youthful energy. Despite her battles with FIV, stomatitis, Ehler-Danlos syndrome, and other chronic conditions, she found solace in lounging on Daisy’s lap and purring herself to sleep. No ailment could hinder Marmie’s determination to connect with her human, gazing into their eyes and seeking affection through her purrs.

Daisy Austin shared, “Her unbreakable spirit is truly remarkable. Every medical professional who has assessed her and reviewed her medical history has been left in awe. She adores snuggling up to me, with drool all over, enjoys playing and following me around the entire apartment,” Daisy shared with Love Meow. “If I’m in the kitchen, she’s on the counter, staring at me. If I’m in the closet, she’s observing me fold clothes. And if I’m on the couch, she’s right on my lap.”

Marmie has undergone a transformation from a scruffy cat at the shelter to a beautiful, cuddly companion, now weighing in at 11.5 pounds. In addition to her fondness for food, she also delights in going on walks with her human mom.

Daisy shared that Marmie brings her comfort, gratitude, and joy, particularly during challenging days. Despite being 12 years old, Marmie’s youthful spirit shines through, surpassing all expectations and radiating pure happiness.
